How many Sunday mornings have I shown up for church with a heart prepared for worship? Usually it’s with a mind full of last night’s activity, today’s lunch plans, and tomorrow’s to-do list.

But that’s no way to show up for corporate worship.

A few weeks ago I stumbled upon this list of ways to prepare your heart for Sunday sermons. Today I read a tweet on rekindling a wonder for the spoken Word of God.

I know that I need both reminders on a Saturday night in order to be focused on Sunday morning.

The next time you hear God’s word in corporate worship, listen. Whether in the call to worship, or the sermon, or the benediction, let your heart be warmed by the flame of God’s voice. Allow your heart to tremble at the reality and veracity of God’s word. (Matt Boswell, Desiring God blog)

Join me this Sunday in quieting your heart and mind, and walking into the throne room of heaven before you walk into your church building.
