Missionary mom and blogger Joy Forney is doing a book-reading list link-up that sounded too great to pass up! I’ve long given up reading one book at a time before starting a new one, so I’m sharing my list of current reads for this (past) month.

January Book List

One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp
Yes, I’m still reading this book. I  could say I’m purposefully taking it slow, but that wouldn’t be entirely true. Though it’s been a bit sporadic, I’m still enjoying it, and still keeping my gift list. There are simply too many to stop!

The Cross-Centered Life by C. J. Mahaney
This is a re-read for me, but isn’t that the point? It’s a small, devotional-type book that brings you back to the cross. Highly recommend!

The God Ask by Steve Shadrach
An odd title for sure, until you understand the meaning. This has been a great help to me in my ministry partner development in keeping my focus upward. It’s a reminder to make “the ask” vertically, not horizontally.

Cruise Ship or Nursing Home: The 5 Essentials of a Maximized Life by 5 Doctors whose names I can’t remember
This was in my home care package from my chiropractor and has been very interesting. (The fact that I have a chiropractor is very interesting.) It discusses the importance of maximized health, not just a pain-free life, through the five essentials: maximized mind, nerve supply, quality nutrition, and oxygen & lean muscle (i.e. exercise), and minimized toxins. It’s not quacky or extreme, which is why I like it.

Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan
I’m ashamed to say this is the first time I’ve actually read the unabridged version. In 6th grade my AWANA club went through it, so I was very familiar with the story, but it was so good to read the whole thing for myself. And it was excellent!! I can definitely see why it has been the second bestselling book (after the Bible) for years! If you’re like me and haven’t read it, find a copy and do so today. I read it all in two sittings. One of those sittings was in the Reagan National Airport waiting on my flight, but that’s besides the point. =)

What have you been reading this month? Tell me about it, or link up to Joy’s post as well and join in the fun!
