Monday Morning Melody

Do you love to proclaim the redeeming work of God? Do you sing of the mercies of the Lord?

Fanny Crosby obviously loved to sing, and she made the object of her singing God’s glory. Yesterday in church, I noticed several different hymns used language like “I sing, for I cannot be silent”, not just Crosby hymns. Sure, it makes sense to sing about singing, but do you really have such admiration for God inside you that you could just burst out in song?

I’m a huge fan of musicals, and one of my favorites is the all-time classic The Sound of Music. The beautiful countryside in the opening scene is enough to make anyone burst out in song, right?! As believers, that desire should not be just because we’re surrounded by picturesque gorgeousness, but because we see our Creator in creation. That’s the kind of admiration we should be singing of all the day long.

Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it! Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed thro’ His infinite mercy, His child, and forever, I am.

Redeemed, redeemed! Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed! Redeemed! His child, and forever, I am.

Redeemed, and so happy in Jesus, No language my rapture can tell;
I know that the light of His presence With me doth continually dwell.

I think of my blessed Redeemer, I think of Hi all the day long;
I sing, for I cannot be silent; His love is the theme of my song.

I know I shall see in His beauty The King in whose law I delight;
Who lovingly guardeth my footsteps And giveth me songs in the night.

Redeemed, redeemed! Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed! Redeemed! His child, and forever, I am.

Fanny J. Crosby, 1820-1915
